Wolfgang Altenburger

Wolfgang Altenburger (born September 19, 1931 in Burgstädt ; † March 18, 2008 in Berlin ) was a German comic author, editor-in-chief of the comic strip " Mosaik " and the children's magazine " Atze ", as well as the initiator of the Atze expedition camp.

Altenburger joined the SED in 1948 after training as a miner . Until 1956 he was a pioneer leader and instructor at the FDJ Central Council for Tourism and Hiking. From 1956 to 1960 he was an editor at the Junge Welt publishing house in Berlin. From 1960 to 1962 he studied journalism at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig (diploma thesis: "The special tasks of the picture magazine in the system of the children's press of the GDR. An investigation according to the principles of the unified education system and the IV. Journalists' Conference" ). From 1963 to 1985 he was editor-in-chief of “Mosaik” and from 1967 to 1991 editor-in-chief of “Atze” . Altenburger was the most productive comic writer in the GDR (e.g. Pat's travel adventure ), who also wrote texts for most of the illustrated comics of the 1970s and 1980s. In 1982 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit.
