Wolfgang Count Vitzthum

Wolfgang Nikolaus Graf Vitzthum von Eckstädt (born November 22, 1941 in Breslau ) is a German legal scholar .

Life

Wolfgang Graf Vitzthum came from the noble family Vitzthum . He was the son of Wolfgang Graf Vitzthum and the military historian Ursula von Gersdorff . His brother was the mining lawyer Stephan Graf Vitzthum .

Graf Vitzthum studied law and political science at the universities of Berlin (FU), Freiburg (Switzerland) and Freiburg im Breisgau from 1962 to 1967 , where he passed his first state examination. In 1967/68 he studied American law and international law at Princeton and Columbia Universities , where he also received his LL.M. made. In 1971 he was at the University of Freiburg Dr. iur. PhD ; the following year he passed his second state examination in Stuttgart . In 1977 he received his habilitation through the law faculty of the University of Freiburg for public law including international law.

After working as a professor of public law at what is now the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich in 1978, he was full professor of public law at the Law Faculty of the University of Tübingen from 1981 to 2009 . Graf Vitzthum von Eckstädt retired in the summer semester of 2009.

Together with Martin Nettesheim, Vitzthum is the doctoral supervisor of Matthias Pröfrock , whose doctoral degree was revoked in 2011 due to a high proportion of plagiarism.

His main research interests are state and constitutional law as well as international and European law .

He became known to other circles through his marriage to Dagmar Flick (* 1951), the sister of Gert-Rudolf Flick and Friedrich Christian Flick . His second marriage was to Hildegard Temporini-Countess Vitzthum . Graf Vitzthum has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Stefan George Foundation since 2010 .
