Wolfgang Jacobmeyer

Wolfgang Jacobmeyer (born July 27, 1940 in Hanover ) is a German historian and history teacher .

Wolfgang Jacobmeyer studied history and German at the University of Hamburg , the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the University of Oxford . He passed the first and second state exams for teaching at grammar schools. With his dissertation “Home and Exile. The beginnings of the Polish underground movement in World War II ”, he received his doctorate in 1971 in Bochum . His habilitation took place in 1985 at the University of Hanover . Between 1971 and 1978 Jacobmeyer worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Contemporary History in Munich. He then worked at the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research in Braunschweig as deputy director until 1991. From 1991 to 2005 he was professor for modern and contemporary history and history didactics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster.

Research priorities

Wolfgang Jacobmeyer is particularly concerned with German-Polish relations and population movements in the 20th century. In addition, his research focuses on modern educational history and historical didactic textbook research.

Functions and bodies

Wolfgang Jacobmeyer served on the scientific advisory board of the Georg Eckert Institute for international textbook research for many years . He also works on the Advisory Board for Memorial Work of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture. Jacobmeyer has been a member of the federal jury for many years as part of the German History Schoolchildren's Competition for the Prize of the Federal President of the Körber Foundation , and he is a board member of the “Friends of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation ”.
