Wolfgang Kaniber (born November 22, 1939 in Würzburg ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Kaniber began playing soccer with the Würzburger Kickers . The striker made his debut for the club in the Bayernliga and drew the attention of those responsible at Fortuna Düsseldorf . In 1964 he moved as an amateur to the club playing in the Regionalliga West , but could not prevail under coach Kuno Klötzer . Therefore, after only one year, he moved to TuRa Büderich in the regional league. Here he developed into a goal guarantor and got his first professional contract with VfL Osnabrück in 1968 . In the Regionalliga Nord he was crowned top scorer with 31 goals this season and thus helped the club to the relay championship. In the promotion round to the Bundesliga , however, the team failed as second behind Rot-Weiss Essen .
Kaniber received a lucrative offer from Racing Strasbourg and switched to Division 1 in 1969 . Here, too, he established himself as a regular goalscorer, especially in his first season (20 goals and fourth place in the top scorer list ), but returned to Germany after two years and signed a contract with SC Opel Rüsselsheim . He also found a job at Opel in financial accounting. In 1973 he ended his professional career and was initially a player-coach at VfR Groß-Gerau . Later he coached the amateur clubs Eintracht Rüsselsheim , SV Nauheim and FC Königstein .
Others
Wolfgang is the brother of Erich Kaniber .
