Wolfgang Schantl (born September 29, 1961 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee ) is an Austrian doctor and politician ( SPÖ ). From 2005 to July 2008 he was regional councilor and member of the Carinthian regional government Haider III .

Personal

Wolfgang Schantl graduated from the BORG in Klagenfurt and then studied medicine at the University of Vienna . He started his medical career in 1987 as a regular doctor at the Klagenfurt Regional Hospital and completed training as a specialist in plastic and reconstructive surgery. In 1996 he became first senior physician in the plastic surgery department. In 2003 he switched to health management, where he worked for addIT, a subsidiary of Siemens. From 2004 he worked for Siemens Health Management. His tasks included the development of new holistic concepts in health care and process management in hospitals.

Wolfgang Schantl is the son of Josef Schantl , the former President of the Carinthian state parliament. He is divorced and has a son.

Political career

In 2005, Gabriele Schaunig-Kandut brought him to the Carinthian state government, where he was sworn in on November 23. Before his work as a regional councilor, Schantl had not held any political office. When he took office, Schantl named his most important goal of ensuring affordable health care for Carinthia in the long term. After the resignation of Gabriele Schaunig, Schantl was replaced as regional councilor by Peter Kaiser .
