Wolfgang Zeidler

Wolfgang Zeidler (born September 2, 1924 in Hamburg ; † December 31, 1987 in Meran ) was a German lawyer and President of the Federal Constitutional Court from 1983 to 1987.

Life

The son of a Social Democratic high school councilor graduated from the Johanneum's school of scholars , studied from 1945 at the University of Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1951 under Hans Peter Ipsen . During his studies, the SPD member Zeidler was a co-founder and first federal secretary of the Socialist German Student Union (SDS) in 1946 .

After graduating, Zeidler initially worked as a judge at the regional court and the administrative court in Hamburg as well as in the administration of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. In the meantime, he was seconded to Erna Scheffler's research at the Federal Constitutional Court, where he was the youngest judge from August 1967 to June 1970.

In 1970 he became President of the Federal Administrative Court in (then) Berlin . He then returned to Karlsruhe, became Vice President in 1975 and finally President of the Federal Constitutional Court in 1983. He held this position until he retired in November 1987.

From 1979 he was chairman of the German-British Lawyers Association . In 1986 he was also appointed Honorary President of the German-Korean Legal Society.

Zeidler died on New Year's Eve 1987 in a mountain accident in South Tyrol .
