Wolfram P. Kastner (born April 23, 1947 in Munich ) is a German artist , especially action artist , whose works and actions mostly deal with political and historical topics, especially the time of National Socialism in Germany and Austria. Painting and drawing, photo series, installations and objects are equally at the center of his work.

Life

Kastner studied from 1966 to 1972 at the Academy of Fine Arts with Franz Nagel and Robert Jacobsen and at the University of Munich .

The Trail of the Books , one of his most famous campaigns, is reminiscent of the 1933 book burning in Germany . His actions regularly arouse admiration and recognition as well as conflicts with the administration, the police and the judiciary.

Wolfram Kastner is co-founder and chairman of the board of trustees of the Kurt Eisner Kulturstiftung , which was founded in 1989 by artists in Munich. Kastner is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Giordano Bruno Foundation . Wolfram Kastner is a member of the German Association of Artists . He lives and works in Munich.

  • 1987: Artist against census , design of a billboard in Munich-Schwabing.
  • 1988: Stumbling block , art campaign with the erection of a memorial stone, police action, confiscation and investigation by the public prosecutor.
  • 1993: Only the security guard is watching , art action in the justice building in Munich (the death sentences against members of the "white rose" were passed there) with interruptions by 6 judicial officers, since then a bronze plaque on the main portal.
  • 1993: We remember , performance in memory of the pogroms of November 9, 1938 in the F, ended by the police and an investigation by the public prosecutor.
  • 1994: black blood , memory performance for Gustav Landauer

  • 1995: Traces of fire , memory of the book burning on Munich's Königsplatz on May 10, 1933. The action has been repeated annually since 2013 after previous demands by the artist for a renewal of the burn mark had been rejected.
  • 1999: ElserSpuren , addition of the name of Georg Elser on a granite cube created by Leo Kornbrust in 1969 and set up in 1996 in Munich's Hofgarten to commemorate the resistance opponents of the Nazi regime
  • 2006: silhouette , action on November 1st at the Salzburg municipal cemetery with silhouette of the SS wreath bow.
  • 2006: Away with the Concordat , an action by WP Kastner with Georg Ledig, termination by state security and investigation by the public prosecutor, acquittal at the Munich Administrative Court.
