Brookfield Place (until 2014 World Financial Center , abbreviation WFC) is a building complex designed by the architect César Pelli in New York City on the southern tip of Manhattan . It was built by the Olympia and York company between 1982 and 1988 on a site that was made up of rubble and the excavation of the World Trade Center , which was later destroyed, and Battery Park City .

description

The Brookfield Place building complex is divided into five office buildings with up to 51 floors , the center of which is a large winter garden . There was a transition between Brookfield Place and the old World Trade Center until 2001.

The building complex was badly damaged in the attacks of September 11, 2001 , especially the lower floors of towers 2 and 3 and the glass-roofed winter garden in between. After extensive repair work, the building and the winter garden were reopened.

Brookfield Place is where companies like Merrill Lynch , American Express and others are based. The WFC is also home to the New York Mercantile Exchange , the heart of the world's oil trade.
