Wrath ( English : 'Wut', 'Zorn') is the sixth studio album by the US metal band Lamb of God . It was released on February 20, 2009 via Roadrunner Records and reached number two in the US and number one in the Canadian album charts. For the song Set to Fail , the band was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Metal Performance category.

Emergence

After the band toured for months for the previous album Sacrament , the band members decided to use the entire year 2008 for a longer break. But already in March 2008 the band met again to work on their third DVD Walk With Me in Hell and on a new studio album. At the same time, the band signed a contract with Roadrunner Records for all territories outside of North America.

But at the end of March 2008 the band wanted to work again with the producer "Machine", who was responsible for the two previous albums Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament . Still, Lamb of God chose Josh Wilbur, who made a name for himself through his collaboration with country singer Steve Earl .

“We learned a lot from“ Machine ”. But he wanted to make our music more accessible to the masses so that we could be more successful. He wanted a smoother sound. And we just didn't want to go this way. "

- Chris Adler

The recordings lasted from mid-August to the end of September 2008. A total of four studios were used for the recordings. The album was mixed by Josh Wilbur, the mastering was done by Brian Gardner.

When the band started working on Wrath , singer Randy Blythe got the idea to write lyrics about the topic of money , its uses and abuse. In an interview, Blythe stated that Wrath would not be a concept album . However, the lyrics of the songs would be linked. Blythe admitted, however, that his plan could only be partially implemented.

The lyrics of In Your Words are a criticism of the music industry . The song Contractor is about contract killers and mercenaries . The song was inspired by private security companies like Blackwater Worldwide , whose employees were used as mercenaries.

Reclamation deals with the destruction of the environment and ecology . Drummer Chris Adler said in an interview that US President Barack Obama is making his compatriots think more about these issues.

The Japanese version of the album contains the songs We Die Alone , Shoulder of Your God and Condemn the Hive as bonuses . The first two songs are also on the limited digipak .
