Coordinates: 33 ° 16 '  S , 151 ° 21'  O Wyong Shire was a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area was 745 km² and last had about 150,000 inhabitants. In 2016 the Central Coast Council got it on.

Wyong was on the Pacific coast in the region around the metropolis of Sydney about 90 km north of the city center. The area comprised 96 hamlets and villages, including Bateau Bay, Berkeley Vale, Brush Creek, Budgewoi, Chittaway Point, Dooralong, Durren Durren, The Entrance, Gorokan, Ourimbah, Palm Grove, Palmdale, Tuggerah, Warnervale, Wyong , Yarramalong and parts of Kulnura, Lisarow, Somersby and Wyee. The headquarters of the Shire Council was in the village of Wyong in the eastern half of the LGA on Tuggerah Lake, where about 4,300 people now live.

There were first settlements in the Wyong area as early as the middle of the 19th century, but it was not until the Newcastle to Sydney railway line that settlement grew. The transport of timber from more northerly areas to Sydney made Wyong a commercial and administrative center of the region. Soon the city also became a weekend and retirement home for the residents of the two major cities, and since the connection to Sydney via Freeway 3, the population has exploded. Today there are over 150,000 residents in the region and over 316,000 in the entire Central Coast area.

administration

The Wyong Shire Council had ten members elected by the residents of the two wards (five each from Ward A and B). These two districts were defined independently of the localities. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
