Xipamide ( INN ) is a diuretic drug . It is a thiazide analogue that belongs to the group of thiazide diuretics due to the same principle of action . Xipamide is in the treatment of hypertension and for washout of cardiac , renal or hepatic related fluid retention in the tissue used. Xipamid is used both as a single substance and as a component of combination drugs (e.g. together with the potassium-sparing diuretic triamterene ).
