Yūmu Harada ( Japanese 原田 侑 武 , Harada Yūmu ; born September 15, 1990 in Sapporo ) is a Japanese ski jumper .

Career

Harada attended Kōsei High School in Sapporo and then studied at Waseda University .

Harada made his international debut in March 2006 as part of the FIS Cup in Zaō . In December of the same year he made his debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup in Rovaniemi and achieved the points straight away with rank 27. However, it remained his only point in the series for years. At the Junior World Championships 2007 , whose jumping competitions were held in Planica due to lack of snow , Harada jumped 23rd in the individual before winning the silver medal in team jumping with the team. Despite this success, he took an international break after the winter of 2006/07. In January 2009 he went to the Continental Cup in Zaō at the start, but was disqualified. After several FIS competitions in his native Japan, he took part in the Junior World Championships in January 2010 in Hinterzarten . After finishing 32nd in the individual competition, he finished sixth with the team.

A year later Harada took part in the Winter Universiade 2011 in Erzurum . After two top 10 placements in the individual competitions on the normal and the large hill, he won the team competition and thus the gold medal together with Shōtarō Hosoda and Shō Suzuki . Despite this success, he continued to miss the leap into the A or B squad and only started again in the Continental Cup in 2013 and reached the points three times in Sapporo . At the 2013 Winter Universiade in Predazzo , he missed another medal. The best individual result was fifth in the singles and fourth with the team on the normal hill. After completing his studies, he joined the company Yukijirushi Nyūgyō (Snow Brand) in April 2013 , and has been a member of their ski jumping team ever since.

After further points successes in the Continental Cup in Sapporo in January 2015, he made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup on January 24, 2015 in the same place . As 47th, however, he jumped far behind on a point success. In the summer he was used in Hakuba as part of the Ski Jumping Grand Prix and after a 12th and a 13th place he also traveled with the team to the jumps outside of Japan. In Tchaikovsky Harada jumped sixth for the first time in the top 10 in this series. In Almaty , Kazakhstan , he managed to do this in both competitions, and in the end, in fourth place, he just missed his first podium. He finished the Grand Prix in 13th place overall. In the 2015/16 season he was part of the World Cup squad, but missed the points in all competitions. The best results were two 35th places in Nizhny Tagil and Zakopane .

In January 2020, Harada had a serious fall after jumping 144 meters in a competition as part of the Japanese HBC Cup in Sapporo , so that he was canceled for the rest of the season due to a torn cruciate ligament . He last started in international competitions in summer 2019 and was able to win four points in the 2019 Grand Prix .

Harada lives in Tokorozawa .
