Yared Asmerom
Yared Asmerom (born February 4, 1980 in Asmara ) is an Eritrean marathon runner .
In 2004 he won the San Sebastián Marathon and with 2:16:45 h was the first Eritrean to stay below 2:20 h. At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2005 , he came in 2:18:46 on 25th place. That same year he was ninth at the World Half Marathon Championships in Edmonton .
At the Hamburg Marathon he finished 13th in 2:15:36 in 2006 and 16th in 2:15:14 in 2007; the times were each further national records.
At the heat marathon at the World Championships in Osaka , he caused a surprise when he finished fourth in 2:17:41.
In 2008 he finished second in the Lake Biwa Marathon with a personal best of 2:08:34. At the marathon of the Olympic Games in Beijing , he initially stayed in the top group with his compatriot Yonas Kifle , who had replaced him as the national record holder , but then fell back a little. While Kifle collapsed completely in the last kilometers, Asmerom held his own and finished eighth in 2:11:11.
In 2009 he finished third in the Lake Biwa Marathon and in 2010 fifth in the Seoul International Marathon . At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , he finished 19th.
