Yasmine Akram

Yasmine Akram (* 11. March 1982 in Sharjah , the Emirate of Sharjah , Arab United Emirates ) is an Irish actress , playwright and comedian . It was for the role of known Janine Hawkins in the BBC - television series Sherlock .

Life

Yasmine Akram was born in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates in 1982 as the daughter of a Pakistani and an Irishwoman . Her family immigrated to Ireland and moved to Drogheda , her mother's hometown in the northeast of the country, when Yasmine Akram was 18 months old. She has a sister named Masooma. At the age of 14, Akram had his first theater roles.

Yasmine Akram studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London . After graduating there she wrote her first comedy sketches for the BBC and Channel 4 and directed several shows on BBC Radio 1 . She then wrote her first play, 10 Dates with Mad Mary , which was performed in 2010 at the Project Arts Center in Dublin . More pieces followed. With the British comedian Louise Ford she founded the comedy duo Ford and Akram , which performed their first live show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2011 . In the following years, Akram played increasingly in television series . For example, she starred in the British television series Sherlock in two episodes of the third season in 2014 and had also taken on a role in the Christmas special that appeared in late 2015.

Akram has lived in London since 2014.
