Years & Years is a British electropop band from London , which celebrated its international breakthrough with the songs Shine and King in particular .

Band history

Years & Years was founded in 2010 by the Australian Michael Goldsworthy (synth / bass) and Emre Türkmen (synth / beats). Michael Goldsworthy was working as a waiter in London and Emre Türkmen was helping design Brighton's Amex Football Stadium when they met Olly Alexander among her friends at a party that completed the trio. Olly Alexander worked as an actor and was u. a. seen in The Riot Club . It was not until 2013 that they released their first two singles on the small label Kitsuné Music with Traps and Real . In addition, they had made a name for themselves with their live performances, so that Polydor noticed them and signed them in 2014.

In August, the single Take Shelter was released , which became a success and was even a number one hit in Bulgaria . A little later the single Sunlight was released , a collaboration with the Belgian DJ The Magician . Not only did the song reach the top ten in Belgium, it also hit number 7 on the UK charts and was the Belgian’s first UK hit. In addition to their own appearances all over Europe, they were represented at many festivals over the summer and appeared as the opening act for MØ , Clean Bandit and Sam Smith , among others . Desire followed at the end of November , with Years & Years having their first own hit in the British charts. They took first place in the BBC forecast for the Sound of 2015 and the band was also among the nominees for MTV Brand New for 2015 . In the Critics' Choice of the BRIT Awards , she was also one of the shortlist.

In March 2015, the next single King followed , which entered the UK charts at number one and became an international success.

On September 12th, 2015 they played the last concert of the SWR3 New Pop Festival 2015.
