Youku ( Chinese  优 酷 , Pinyin yóukù  - "excellent and cool") is a video portal based in Beijing in the People's Republic of China .

history

Youku was created by Victor Koo, the former President of Sohu , the beta version was officially launched in June 2006 and released in December 2006. In 2007, the company received $ 25 million in venture capital funding. Youku.com ranks first in the Chinese video portal sector. In 2008 Youku teamed up with Myspace in China.

According to the CNIC , the portal had 384 million users at the beginning of 2010 .

In mid-2012, Youku and Tudou merged to form Youku Tudou Inc. According to Alexa Internet , Before the merger, Youku was ranked 11th among the most visited sites in China. Tudou was in 14th place prior to the merger.

Youku allows users to upload videos regardless of their length. Youku has partnered with a number of television broadcasters, film and television production companies in China who regularly upload media content to the website. Copyright infringement
