Yrjö Asikainen

Yrjö "Ykä" Asikainen (born June 5, 1928 in Viipuri , † December 3, 2008 in Tampere ) was a Finnish football player .

Asikainen played for the clubs Viipurin Palloseura and Viipurin Sudet before the war . After the war, through which Finland Viipuri had to cede to the Soviet Union, Asikainen played for the Tampereen Ilves-Kissat and Kronohagens IF (KIF).

With Tampere he was Finnish champion in 1950. He won the title a second time in 1955 with KIF. In addition, Asikainen was three times top scorer of the first-class Mestaruussarja : 1949 with 20 goals (together with Kaimo Lintamo from Vaasan PS ), 1950 with 15 goals (together with Jorma Saarinen from Vaasan PS) and 1955 with twelve goals.

For the national team of Finland , Asikainen completed eight internationals in 1949/50 and another in 1955. He scored a total of five goals.

After his career as a player, he worked as a coach of the Finnish junior national team and the Ilves-Kissat.
