Zurich Unterland
The Zürcher Unterland is a region in the northwest of the canton of Zurich . It essentially comprises the districts of Dielsdorf and Bülach . The Rafzerfeld north of the Rhine is usually also counted as part of the lowlands.

Localities
geography
The Zürcher Unterland ( Swiss-German Züri-Underland ) borders in the west on the Zurzach district (canton Aargau), in the north on the district Waldshut (Baden-Württemberg, Germany), in the east on the two Schaffhausen communities Rüdlingen and Buchberg and on the Zürcher Weinland ( Andelfingen district ), in the south to the city of Zurich and the Dietikon district , and in the southeast to the Zurich Oberland .
The centers of the Zürcher Unterland are located in the district capitals Dielsdorf and Bülach. Eglisau, Kloten and Regensdorf also perform local center functions.
With the two country towns of Eglisau and Regensberg, the historically valuable old town of Bülach , the three-river landscape with the Rhine, Töss and Glatt, and diverse natural landscapes (including the Swiss bird protection center in Neeracherried ), the region is also popular as a leisure and tourism region. The Eggwald is the largest contiguous forest area in the canton of Zurich.
The hills in the Zürcher Unterland are typical gravel terraces for the Central Plateau , which were created in the early Pleistocene by medium moraine material . An exception is the Lägern , which is the easternmost foothills of the Folded Jura .
economy
The Zurich Unterland has been increasingly shaped by Zurich International Airport since the 1950s . Various international companies have settled around the airport.
The southeastern communities close to the city of Zurich have been absorbed by the agglomeration and form part of the metropolis of Zurich. In the north, the Zürcher Unterland is still rural today, albeit with unmistakable signs of urbanization.
Since the middle of the 19th century, the heyday of the print press in Switzerland, many press products have disappeared. After several fusions, the following are left:
- Zürcher Unterländer (until 1949: Bülach-Dielsdorfer weekly newspaper )
- Neues Bülacher Tagblatt (until 1957: Bülach-Dielsdorfer Volksfreund )
- Klotener Anzeiger (until 2011: Anzeiger der Stadt Kloten )
education
The Zürcher Unterland (KZU) canton school, named after the Zürcher Unterland, is located in Bülach , as well as five primary schools and two secondary schools.
