Zdravko Tolimir (born February 27, 1948 in Glamoč ; † February 9, 2016 in The Hague , Netherlands ) was an officer in the army of the Bosnian Serbs , convicted war criminal and in the Bosnian War as one of seven deputies of the military chief of the Bosnian Serbs, Ratko Mladić , responsible for the intelligence service .

After the end of the war he went into hiding. According to the Serbian broadcaster B92 , Tolimir was caught on May 31, 2007 on Bosnian soil. Police officers from Serbia and the Republika Srpska were involved in the arrest . He was arrested while trying to cross the border into Serbia.

On February 10, 2005, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague brought charges against him. He is accused of having participated in the Srebrenica massacre after the capture of Srebrenica by Bosnian Serb troops in 1995 . A unit under his control was charged with the murder of more than 1,700 men and young people on the Branjevo estate and in a cultural center in the village of Pilići. According to the verdict, he “played an active role in planning the murder of almost 8,000 predominantly Muslim men and boys in Srebrenica.” Shortly before the trial began, the charges were expanded. The new allegations related to the shooting of 39 residents of Srebrenica in the village of Bisina near Zvornik on July 23, 1995 and of nine residents of Žepa two days later.

The trial of Tolimir in the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia began on February 26, 2010. On December 12, 2012, he was convicted of genocide and sentenced to life in prison. On April 8, 2015, the Appeals Chamber of the UN War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague upheld the judgment of the first instance.
