Decay product

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A decay product is the product (result) of decay.

In physics - more precisely nuclear physics - this usually means the radioactive " decay " of an atomic nucleus , ie its spontaneous transformation into another nucleus. The decay products are then the atomic nucleus created ( daughter nucleus ) and the radiation emitted during the process .

In biology , decay products, i.e. the result of cellular decay, are referred to as detritus (Latin for “waste”).
