Zeynep Ahunbay

Zeynep Ahunbay (born June 20, 1946 in Ünye , Ordu Province , Turkey ) is a Turkish architectural historian .

biography

Ahunbay was born in Ünye, a small town in the Black Sea region of Turkey. She received her PhD in Architectural History in 1976 from Istanbul Technical University , where she was appointed Professor of Architectural History in 1988. She has published numerous books on the restoration and preservation of cultural heritage. Ahunbay's most famous works are the restoration of the Zeyrek Mosque with art historians Metin Ahunbay and Robert Ousterhout, and the restoration of the city walls of Istanbul .

She is currently working on a project to preserve Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and to restore the ancient city of Hasankeyf .
