Zhao Leji ( Chinese  赵 乐 际 , Pinyin Zhào Lèjì ; born March 8, 1957 in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province ) is a Chinese politician and has been a member of the 19th Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China since October 2017 .

Career

Zhao Leji was born in Xi'an, Shanxi Province. He was inducted into the Chinese Communist Party in 1975 . From 1977 to 1980 he studied philosophy at Peking University . He then held various positions in Qinghai Province . From 1994 to 1997 he was the lieutenant governor of Qinghai Province. He then held the post of deputy secretary of the Party Committee from 1999 to 2007 and, until 2004, the post of governor of Qinghai Province. He then went to Shaanxi Province , where he was secretary of the party committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shaanxi Province National People's Congress. From 2012 to 2017 he was a member of the Politburo and a member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Zhao was elected to the 19th Politburo Standing Committee on October 25, 2017. At the same time, he succeeded Wang Qishan as the secretary (head) of the CCP Central Disciplinary Commission .
