Zhu Jianhua (athlete)
Zhu Jianhua ( Chinese 朱建华 , Pinyin Zhū Jiànhuá ; born May 29, 1963 ) is a former Chinese high jump world record holder.
Zhu's first international success was his victory at the Asian Championships in 1981, when he surpassed the previous Asian record by 15 centimeters. At the Asian Games of 1982 and 1986 he won again by a large margin.
He set his first world record in high jump with 2.37 meters on June 11, 1983 in Beijing. Improvements of one centimeter each followed at the International High Jump Meeting in Eberstadt and Shanghai. His world record was only surpassed on August 11, 1985 by Rudolf Powarnitsyn .
At the first World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 and at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , he won the bronze medal as the reigning world record holder.
