After two campaigns by the Aghlabids against the Kutāma 905 and 906 had failed, Abdallah asch-Shiʿi went over to the counter-offensive. After the conquest of southern Ifriqiya on March 18, 909, the troops of the Aghlabids were decisively defeated at al-Aribus.
