history

Today's Zollenspieker ferry connection - formerly known as the Eyslinger Ferry - has existed since 1252. From 1420 it was the administrative seat of the Riepenburg Office. The name Zollenspieker, at that time still called Yslinge , is derived from Zollspeicher , this was built on the kirchwerderan side at a point where the Elbe makes a bend, so the Elbe and its own bank can be seen very well in all directions from here is. The Eyslingen customs office was militarily secured by the Riepenburg , a Niederungsburg probably built in the 13th century . Customs were levied at this point until 1806 , i.e. until Napoleon I conquered the area . The Zollenspieker is located at river kilometer 598 and at the same time marks the southernmost point of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg. The Zollenspieker – Hoopte ferry connection is the last existing car ferry in Hamburg .

Hoopter Möwe II and Spieker Möwe

The double-ended ferries Hoopter Möwe II and Spieker Möwe are used on the route between Zollenspieker and Hoopte . Due to the lane length of 36 m and the resulting higher vehicle capacity of 26 cars, the Hoopter Möwe II is the larger of the two ferries and is therefore mainly used. Only when the traffic is very low - for example shortly before the winter break - the Spieker Möwe occasionally drives , and as an additional ferry in the summer months to support the Hoopter Möwe II . The ferry was used as Golzwarden on the Weser ferry Brake – Sandstedt until the beginning of 2004 and was sold and transferred to Zollenspieker in November 2004.

The Spieker Möwe was built in 1958 in the Clausen shipyard in Oberwinter am Rhein and was used on the Mannheim-Rheinau-Altrip ferry station until 1992. In 1992 the ferry was converted in the "Schmidt" Hoopte shipyard. The total length of this double-ended ferry is 35.04 m, the lane measures 21.92 m and holds approx. 14 cars and is therefore significantly smaller than that of the Hoopter Möwe II . The Spieker Möwe is approved for 300 people and thus for 100 people more than the large ferry.
