A zombie walk is a North American public event in which participants dress up as zombies and apply make-up.

The first zombie walk took place on August 19, 2001 in Sacramento , USA .

On October 29, 2006 near Pittsburgh, 894 participants made an entry in the Guinness Book of Records . The number of participants subsequently rose sharply, so that around 10,000 people took part in Brisbane, Australia in 2010.

In Germany, the first Zombie Walk took place on January 21, 2006 in Cologne. In 2007 zombie walks were held in several German cities, for example in Cologne on November 1, 2007 and on October 31, 2007 in Essen. In the years that followed, the number of participants in the great walks increased more and more. In some cities, zombie walks had to be canceled because they had not received a permit from the public order office. The way municipalities deal with this event differs nationwide. While the zombie walks are simply tolerated in some cities, in other cities it is necessary to register the event and take out an organizer's liability insurance.
