Future Without People ( English : 'Life After People') is a documentary series in which speculative reports are given about an earth without people: How long do nature and the animal world need to recover? When do which buildings fall apart? What happens to the technology left behind? How long will it take until all traces of human existence have disappeared? Many of the assumptions made are based on simulations and expected decay rates and are therefore sometimes speculative, especially as soon as periods of several hundred to thousands of years are reported.

The series is based on the assumption that mankind ceases to exist from one moment to the next, that is, it will not be wiped out by natural disasters, wars, diseases or the like. Therefore, on "day zero" there is a completely intact infrastructure , with full shelves in the supermarkets, pets left behind and industrial plants that have not been shut down.

If there are real examples that largely correspond to this scenario, they are often used as a reference in the appropriate time periods. A frequently used example is the Chernobyl nuclear disaster , where, among other things, the city of Pripyat was completely abandoned within a few days.

The series was originally broadcast on History in Germany . On January 21, 2008, the pilot film entitled When Nature Survives Man ... was first broadcast, followed by the series on April 21, 2009. Since 2010, N24 and the specialty broadcaster ServusTV have also shown the series.

At the beginning of each episode it says:

What would happen if people disappeared from the earth? This is not the story of our disappearance ... it is the story of what would happen afterwards.
