Overbreeding

The term overbreeding describes in a catchphrase a change in the phenotype of a breeding population caused by breeding that is perceived as negative . In scientific genetics , the term is not used due to its unclear and poorly delineated definition.

In popular parlance, the term mostly describes phenomena from the complex of topics of agony , inbreeding depression and the accumulation of hereditary diseases in certain breeds of domestic animals , the latter in turn being mostly due to a genetic bottleneck .
