Þumlungur

The Þumlungur ( " Tom Thumb ") was an ancient Icelandic unit length.

It comes from the Danish customs ( danskur þumlungur ) and was the legal unit of measurement from 1776 to 1907. One Þumlungur corresponds to 26.15 mm. The corresponding area measure is the ferþumlungur . The Icelandic word tomma (fem.) Is used for the well-known unit of measurement inch (= 25.4 mm) .
