The steam locomotives of the classes H and Hh were produced between 1905 and 1920 for the Royal Württemberg State Railways .

Württemberg State Railways

The first eight machines (with the train numbers 811–818) were built as wet steam locomotives until 1909 . The four copies (812 and 816–818) taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn were later converted to superheated steam .

The 26 locomotives of the later deliveries (with the train numbers 821-846), however, already had superheated steam engines. Outwardly, the two variants differed only in a slightly different arrangement of the cylinders . Of these, 17 went to the Reichsbahn. There they had the company numbers 57 301–304 for the converted machines (H) and 57 401–57 417 for the others (Hh). The vehicles were traveling with a Tender to type! Hang 3 T 15.5 equipped.

German Reichsbahn

The last of these locomotives were retired in 1935.
