The ČSD class 534.03 was a steam freight locomotive of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

history

The locomotives were an emergency solution after the Second World War, when locomotives were urgently needed, but there was no time for a new design. They were created on the chassis of the 534.0 series from 1923–1942.

On December 22, 1945, the first prototype, the 534.0301, was ready for acceptance on the site of the Škoda plant in Pilsen, which was badly damaged by the war . From 1945 to 1947, 228 machines of this series were manufactured at Škoda in Pilsen and ČKD in Prague . The locomotives performed well. They were mainly used in freight train service, after the appearance of the 556.0 series , their area of application then shifted more to branch lines, where they could be used more economically with their axle load of only 14 t and their speed of 60 km / h. The locomotives were given the nickname "Kremak" ( crematorium ) by the operational service. In 1982, the 534.0301, the last locomotive of the 534.0 series, was retired. The locomotives 534.0301 ( National Technical Museum Prague ) in Chomutov , 534.0323 ( ČD museum locomotive ), 534.0432 (operational ČD museum locomotive) and 534.0471 (Transport Museum in Bratislava) have been preserved.
