The ČSD class 555.3 is a tender locomotive for the freight train service of the former Czechoslovak state railway ČSD, which was created by converting the war locomotive of the DR class 52 (ČSD: 555.0) to oil main firing . The locomotives are nicknamed "Mazutka" (from the fuel masut ).

history

555.3008 visiting the Railway Museum Lužná u Rakovníka

Various workshops in today's Czech Republic , Slovakia and Ukraine carried out the renovation in 1963. The advantages of the reconstruction were obvious: elimination of the physically difficult work by the heater, increase in output by 20% - 25%, elimination of the risk of fire due to flying sparks. The locomotives to be converted were given a heating burner system, the combustion chamber was lined with fireclay bricks and the tub tender was subsequently given a fuel boiler.

The stationing in only four depots allowed the special features of the operational requirements; Kralupy nad Vltavou , Zdice , Brno -Maloměřice and Bratislava -Východ. In this depot the machines did the heavy freight train service. The locomotives only proved their worth to a limited extent, due to the higher thermal load from the oil furnace, damage to the boiler and the fire box often occurred. Therefore, after the crude oil crisis in the early 1970s, the locomotives - some only four years after their reconstruction - were taken out of service. The last 555.3 was parked in 1973.

555.3008 has been preserved in the area of the Bratislava -východ museum depot . This is the former 52 6665 ( Škoda / 1943). The machine has been reconstructed over many years and has been available for museum train operations since 2011.
