The locomotive of the ČSD series T 211.1 was created by reconstruction from the ČSD series T 211.0 .

From 1977 to 1991 the new and more powerful TATRA 930.51 engine was installed in this. This increased the output to 147 kW and the reconstructed machines were classified in the T 211.1 series (from 1988: 701 ). The basic structure of the T 211.0 was retained. Later, the engine T3 - 928.32 was installed in the locomotives, and the locomotives equipped in this way were designated as the T 211.2 series (from 1988: 701.3 ).

Some of the undemanding and proven locomotives are used in light shunting and in work train service.
