The ČSD series T 478.4 (from 1988 series 754 ) is a diesel-electric universal locomotive of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). The locomotives owe their nicknames diving goggles or spectacle snake (Brejlovec) to the striking exterior with the glare-free driver's cabs.

history

754.037 was awarded to PKP Intercity in 2014, here in front of a TLK in Zagórz (2014)

The locomotives are a further development of the predecessor type T 478.3 , with more powerful engines and an electric train heating system. The first two prototypes were made in 1975 at ČKD in Prague . Between 1978 and 1980, 78 series locomotives were built.

With the introduction of the EDP numbering system in 1988, the locomotives were given the new class number 754 with only a 3-digit serial number.

The machines are still in use at today's České dráhy (ČD) and Železničná spoločnosť (ZSSK).

Five ČD locomotives have been lent to the Polish railway company PKP Intercity since 2014 , which uses the vehicles on non-electrified routes in front of high-quality long-distance trains. The lease was extended for a further two years in December 2017.
