Ōfuna prisoner of war camp
The POW camp Ofuna ( Jap. 大船捕虜収容所 , Ofuna Furyoshūyōjo or 横須賀海軍警備隊植木分遣隊 , Yokosuka Kaigun Keibitai Ueki Bunkentai , dt. " Detachment Ueki the Marine Protection Force Yokosuka ") was in World War II, a Japanese POW camp one kilometer northwest of the train station of Ōfuna (today: Kamakura ) in the district of Ueki in the prefecture of Kanagawa .
It was installed in a school by the Imperial Japanese Navy and opened on April 7, 1942. There were reports of famine, torture and unnatural deaths in the camp. The prisoners of this camp included the Americans Richard O'Kane , Louis Zamperini and Gregory Boyington .
