.on

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.an was the country-specific top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Netherlands Antilles . It was introduced on September 9, 1993 and has since been administered by the University of the Netherlands Antilles . Only citizens and companies of the Netherlands Antilles were allowed to register an .an address. Registrations were made at both the second and third levels.

Since the Netherlands Antilles were dissolved on October 10, 2010, it was decided to remove .an from the domain name system . The deletion of existing .an domains began on October 31, 2013 and was completed within one year. On December 20, 2010 ICANN took the top-level domains .bq ( Bijzondere gemeenten, Special municipalities of the Netherlands : Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba), .cw (Caribbean island of Curaçao ) and .sx ( Sint Maarten ) into the root zone to replace .an completely. Owners of a .an domain had the opportunity to register their name there with priority. The TLD was deleted on July 31, 2015.
