.cl is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Chile . It was introduced on January 27, 1995 and has since been administered by the Universidad de Chile .

properties

A .cl domain can be between three and 63 characters long. Compared to other addresses, the criteria are very strict, so that only private individuals and companies from Chile can register a .cl domain. In addition, the registry introduced the requirement late on that domains can only be transferred with the help of a so-called auth code , which makes the transfer considerably more secure.

meaning

Despite the strict guidelines, .cl domains are relatively widespread; at the end of 2015, a total of 493,596 addresses were available.
