.cw is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the state of Curaçao .

history

It was created through the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles , in the course of which the country received its own abbreviation in the ISO-3166-1 coding list . .Cw has been registered in the so-called root zone of the Domain Name System since December 20, 2010 ; the University of Curacao, headquartered in Willemstad, is responsible for its administration . Initially, the domain was not actively used, after about a year, active operation in the official registry began in October 2011.

Owners of a ccTLD .an , which was permanently deleted due to the dissolution of the former Netherlands Antilles on July 31, 2015, had the option of registering either the corresponding .cw or .sx domain up to and including August 2013 . In addition to .cw, there are also the second-level domains .net.cw and .com.cw , which, according to the registry , should serve as alternatives to .net and .com . The award criteria for the ccTLD .cw stipulate that the organization or institution applying for a domain must submit official proof of its actual presence in Curacao.
