.ga

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.ga is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) in Gabon . It was introduced on December 12, 1994 .

history

The .ga domain has been administered by the RIPE Network Coordination Center since 1994 . In 1998 she was delegated to the Office des Postes et Télécommunications de la République Gabonaise (OPT) . In 2004, after the OPT was split into a post office and a telecommunications division, Gabon Telecom took over the .ga domain. Gabon Telecom was privatized in 2007 and from then on was no longer able to manage the .ga domain. In 2011 the state Agence Nationale des Infrastructures Numériques et des Fréquences (ANINF) was launched, whose tasks have since included the administration of the .ga domain. The ANINF has been officially responsible for the .ga domain since March 2013 .

properties

A .ga domain can be between two and 63 characters long, umlauts cannot be used. First of all, a place of residence or a branch in Gabon was required in order to register a .ga domain. This procedure changed in July 2013 after the registry announced the start of the landrush period . .Ga has been freely available since September 1, 2013 and belongs to the so-called unrestricted top-level domains . The change is due to the change in the registry : instead of Gabon Telecom , .ga is operated by the My GA Registry organization , which was commissioned by the Agence Nationale des Infrastructures Numériques et des Fréquences . .ga domains can be registered free of charge.

criticism

In February 2012 it became known that the registry had not been able to guarantee access to the top-level domain since October 2011. The reason was the failure of several primary name servers , including the offers operated by AFNIC . In October 2013, the registry came under fire again after attackers were able to take the .ga DNS server through an attack .
