.gt is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Guatemala . It was introduced on August 14, 1992 and has since been administered by the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala .

Initially, domains could only be registered under a second-level domain , in particular .com.gt for companies or .ind.gt for individuals. In 2009 the registry lifted this restriction so that addresses are also registered directly under .gt. (The second-level domains set up up to then still exist.) In total, a .gt domain can be between three and 63 characters long and contain only alphanumeric characters .

The top-level domain .gt is one of the first nine addresses to be recognized by the World Intellectual Property Organization's arbitration procedure in 2001 .
