properties

Domains are only registered on the second level. There are no special restrictions, any natural or legal person may own a .mp domain. A residence or settlement in the Northern Mariana Islands is not necessary. Compared to many other top-level domains, the connection is made directly via the registry ; there are no accredited registrars . The fees were also comparatively high up to 2008, now the domains are available for $ 20 per year, although certain and short domains sometimes cost significantly more.

Others

The contracting authority marketed .mp first as abbreviation "MP" for "mobile phone" ( mobile phone ). Since this business model obviously did not pay off, the registry tried in 2007 to gain a foothold with its own social media service under the name chi.mp. Since this model did not catch on either, the chi.mp platform was closed again, which meant that all owners of a .mp domain also lost it.
