properties

The ending belongs to the so-called restricted domains , which are only given to persons and companies with a place of residence or a branch in the country. Alternatively, a .py domain can also be registered if the registering organization was founded in Paraguay or the owner at least names an authorized representative on site. In total, a .py domain can be between two and 63 characters long and contain only alphanumeric characters and hyphens , but not in the first or last, third or fourth position.

For years, the top-level domain has collided with efforts by the Russian registry to introduce a Cyrillic variant of .ru , the spelling of which is very similar to .py . The ICANN has therefore repeatedly rejected the project.
