Until August 2004, it was only possible to order third-level domains, but this rule no longer applies. Private individuals can now order any domains on the second level, just like companies for which .com.sg (third level) is also intended. This makes .sg the only ccTLD in the world that already provides information about its owner via the actual address. In total, a .sg or .com.sg domain can be between three and 63 characters long; connecting a domain to a European registrar usually takes two to five days.
Since 2007 it has been possible to order an .sg domain that only consists of digits. In the course of introducing such addresses, the registry defined a minimum fee for particularly valuable addresses that interested parties had to pay. Internationalized domain names have also been supported since 2009, for example Chinese characters can be used in .sg domains. Not every European registrar supports this function.
In May 2013, the obligation for .sg domain owners to have their own identity verified was introduced - for example by presenting a valid ID. According to its own statement, the registry wants to curb the misuse of .sg domains through fake Whois information .
