.tl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.tl is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste . It was registered with the Internet authority IANA on March 23, 2005 , after the top-level domain assigned by it in 1997 had been .tp for eight years . The ccTLD is technically administered by the non-profit organization Council of Country Code Administrators (CoCCA) via servers on the Australian Christmas Island .

properties

A .tl domain can be between three and 63 characters long and only contain alphanumeric characters . Special characters based on the Punycode method, as supported by other ccTLDs, are not yet possible. The connection is usually completed after 24 hours. The top-level domain is open to everyone; a place of residence or a branch in the country is not necessary. However, registration in connection with pornographic content is not permitted.

The most expensive .tl domain to date was sex.tl , which was sold in 2008 for over $ 3,400 . Occasionally .tl is also used as an abbreviation for telephone or the English term telephone and thus competes with the domain .tel , under which no complete websites can be operated. Some Tyrolean site operators also use the ending tl.
