1st division (chess) 1996/97

The 1996/97 season was the 35th season of the 1st division, which was then the top division of the Danish team championship in chess .

After 5 of 7 rounds, the defending champions Skakklubben K41 and Skakklubben Sydøstfyn were in the lead in front of Espergærde Skakklub , but Espergærde took over the top of the table with an 8-0 victory over the bottom group Nordre Skakklub and maintained it in the last round. The Brønshøj Skakforening and the Nordre Skakklub had risen from the 2nd division ; both had to get down again without a chance.
