Blow mouse trap

In forest protection, a 100-trap-nights is a process that is supposed to monitor the endangerment of cultures by voles (short-tailed mice).

In the classical method 50 will be affected in cultures snap traps (: x 2 nights 50 traps = 100 Case nights origin of the name) and situated on two consecutive nights controlled. After the first night, the captured mice are collected and the traps are set up again for the next night. The total number of mice captured is set in relation to the number of nights of trapping and an index value is calculated from this (mice captured / 100). If this reaches a critical number, severe damage is to be expected and control may have to be initiated. An index value of 10 or more is considered critical for earth mice and a value of 6 or more for bank voles .

Raisins are recommended as bait because, unlike toasted bread, they do not attract shrews .
