3rd Ave. El is an American short film directed by Carson Davidson in 1955.

action

The film follows the route of the IRT Third Avenue Line through Manhattan . First, a photographer who photographed the elevated train gets in . He sits down and sees a coin between the grooves in the floor. He wants to pick it up, but a passerby steps on his hands. He leaves the coin. Later, a drunk man uses the train that takes him past a brewery and a liquor store. The drunk also tries to pick up the coin, but falls from his seat. Later, a girl gets in with her parents, who move the child on when he tries to pick up the coin. It has become evening and a couple are using the elevated train. He picks up the coin and happily shows it to his girlfriend.

3rd Ave. El shows pictures of the last elevated train in Manhattan, which was shut down in the year of the film premiere in 1955. The film is accompanied by Haydn's Concerto in D, with the harpsichord music played by Wanda Landowska . The film was included in the film archive of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .

Awards

3rd Ave. El was nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Short Film (One Film Role ) " in 1956 , but could not prevail against Survival City .
