Ashcroft Technology Academy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ashcroft Technology Academy is a general secondary school founded in 1991 under the name ADT College in the London borough of Putney for students from grades 7 to 13. In 2007 the school was renamed the Ashcroft Technology Academy. It is named after the British economist and politician Michael Ashcroft , who was also a founding sponsor of ADT College. The school was founded as the City Technology College , but like many of the relatively young CTCs, it has since moved to the very similar organizational form of the Technology Academy. In this as in the old school form, commercial enterprises (in this case originally the electronics and security group ADT ) finance part of the school budget and are allowed to actively participate in school policy.

In addition to the national curriculum, the range of subjects includes economics (business / technology), computer science (information technology) and, initially, an extended range of foreign languages. The curriculum and the school philosophy are very much oriented towards employment and business life.

Despite a strong focus on performance, the Ashcroft Technology Academy is an integrative comprehensive school that takes into account fixed admission rates according to gender, social and ethnic origin and a fixed proportion of students with special educational needs with a constantly high number of applicants .
