Attention profiles are already being created in large numbers, especially in connection with data mining . For example, the product recommendations at the Internet mail order company Amazon are based on attention profiles. The music recommendations from the Internet music platform Last.fm are also generated using attention profiles.
The APML file format was designed to make the advantages of such techniques accessible outside of closed systems such as amazon or last.fm.
