Eel stinger

Eel cutter with six sawtooth blades

The Aalstecher is on the prototype of the trident -based fishing tool for eel fishing . Other names are Aaleisen , Aalgabel , Aalpricke , Aalschere , Aalstachel , outdated and Elger (originally. Aalger of ger , Germanic "spear, spit"). Special forms are the eel rake or the eel rake . The Danish name Lyster is also encountered in German.

Eels bury themselves in the muddy ground in autumn or winter, but also when streams fall dry. With the eel prick you stab blindly into the ground, the eel gets caught between the leaves - often with barbs or saw teeth - and can be pulled out. The eel cutter pictured on the right was still in use in the 1950s. Today its use is prohibited.
